Meet Amanda King

I am a trauma therapist who works with you on building awareness into and re-programming shame-based beliefs and narratives you internalized early in life. I work best with clients who have already gained valuable insight and awareness into  the origins of their unhelpful patterns, and are ready to take action towards healing. Therapy with me includes the assumption that permanent healing is possible and the process doesn't need to take years. My clients value compassionate and honest feedback, even when it's uncomfortable.

My clients describe me as authentic, spirited, and direct. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker #120615, and am trained in EMDR, and informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS) and mindfulness-based approaches.

My clients are conscientious and self-aware.

My clients might describe themselves as highly insightful and perceptive, often analyzing themselves with remarkable accuracy. They are acutely aware of the behaviors and thought patterns that keep them stuck, but often struggle to harness this self-awareness for meaningful and enduring change.

Whether they feel trapped in a cycle of overthinking without action, or find themselves placing the needs of others above their own, what keeps them from moving forward is their fragmented sense of self. They tend to over-identify with their self-criticism, which only adds to a feeling of chronic shame and self-doubt.

As a therapist, my mission is to guide my clients towards belonging where ostracized parts of themselves are invited in and cared for. These scattered pieces of their inner world are united to bring about a deep and lasting change.

A few things my clients might say after working with me:

  • I can discern between shameful self-analysis and loving self-awareness

  • I am attuned to my body and listen to what my emotions are telling me

  • I feel empowered to establish healthy boundaries to preserve my energy

Therapy with me feels like an open space for all parts of you to be witnessed and held, even the previously hidden ones you have been trying to ignore or suppress. I am passionate about providing non-pathologizing, compassionate, and trauma-focused care to my clients. I help you to understand the origins of the parts of you that have kept you in self-sabotage and turn towards them with patience and sensitivity. I enjoy helping clients create their own definition of personal fulfillment, exploring topics related to meaning, purpose, and spirituality.

Special welcome to men navigating the aftermath of a breakup or divorce, and gen z/millennials experiencing a plateau after doing a lot of work on themselves.
