Meet Grace Chan
I bring all of my authenticity, intuition, and creativity in me to welcome all of you, from the known and familiar parts to the hidden and unspoken parts, into the brave space we get to create together in therapy.
I am a Malaysian-Chinese, Third-Culture Kid/Adult, first-generation immigrant in America, oldest sibling in an interracial and intercultural marriage with another oldest sibling, and a decolonising/reconstructing person of faith. I understand what it’s like to be reduced to simply just one digestible identity, and I see and celebrate the multitudes of layers and stories that live within you.
My clients desire to free themselves from being stuck in ‘the middle’ - where you’ve spent your time and energy being the bridge between family members, cultures, and histories. They are exhausted from the weight of constantly supporting others and putting others above their own needs and wants. Their dream is to create a fulfilling interdependence between the people and work they care for and the self they yearn to love.
I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (#142670), supervised by Phillip Chang, LCSW #92156. I am trained in Brainspotting and Prepare/Enrich Premarital Counseling, and I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) with creative arts therapies to support individuals and couples in deepening their connection to themselves and each other.
My clients are self-led, curious, and always becoming. They initiate their own growth, delve into self-study, and yearn to live fully and authentically. Their greatest fear is being stuck, unable to expand and grow into the life and self they envision.
My clients are:
Individuals struggling to figure out who they truly are after lifelong conditioning from their family of origin, collective cultural and societal scripts, and relational patterns such as caretaking, mediating, and peace-making.
Couples desiring a deeper commitment but feel uncertain about their future together because of recurring and unresolved conflicts.
Families navigating the aftermath of a major transition, whether it’s the reveal of a ‘secret’, or a sudden tragedy, or an unspeakable loss.
Teens who shut down out of fear that no one truly understands them, or because they feel unseen, unheard, or not believed.
My approach is grounded, creative, and culturally responsive. It integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), experiential therapy, Brainspotting, and creative arts therapies. Therapy with me is not just about symptom relief; it's about reclaiming the parts of yourself that were quieted to survive.
We explore the impact of generational expectations, internalized perfectionism, and the unspoken rules shaped by colonization and whiteness. Together, we name what's been inherited, so you can choose what's worth keeping and what no longer fits. I hope to offer a space where you can shift out of survival mode and move toward a life rooted in self-trust, community, and joy.
No two sessions with me are ever the same because you're not a set of problems to solve, and therapy isn't a script someone else wrote for your life. Therapy with me is a sacred space to rest from the familial roles, cultural expectations, and passed-down "shoulds" you've carried for so long, and gently reconnect with the version of you that feels most true.
Together, we'll build:
The courage to have honest conversations with yourself and others.
Trust in your own wisdom, even when it goes against what you were taught to believe.
Confidence to be your whole self, whether at home, with family and friends, at work, or standing quietly in your own presence.
Understanding this work isn't about becoming someone else - it's about coming home to who you already are.
My joy in this work comes from walking alongside you as you tune into your truest self and embark on the often surprisingly creative adventure of healing the wounded and protective parts within you, so you can be unburdened and fully present with the people you love.
Special welcome to creatives in the entertainment Industry, folks struggling with religious trauma, and oldest siblings rediscovering their inner child.
